Phi Psi Lambda History

Seven men in tuxedos representing Phi Psi Lambda Leadership Society.

The Beginning of Phi Psi Lambda

On a windy fall Saturday morning in 2016, in Paramus, New Jersey, something sacred began to take form. It did not arrive with thunder, spectacle, or the applause of the world. It began quietly, with conviction. It began when seven men came together around a belief that leadership—and the lives transformed by it—could not wait.

Phi Psi Lambda Leadership Society, Incorporated was born from that belief.

It was founded on a bold and necessary vision: that men of color must rise in their power, create their own platforms, and lead unapologetically from the center. Not from the margins. Not by permission. Not as an afterthought. But from the center of purpose, excellence, service, and impact.

From its first breath, Phi Psi Lambda was not designed to chase popularity. It was not built for status, performance, or empty recognition. It was built for the lifelong work of becoming. Becoming disciplined. Becoming courageous. Becoming accountable. Becoming men whose leadership could be seen not only in words, but in the families they strengthened, the campuses they shaped, the workplaces they influenced, and the communities they served.

Phi Psi Lambda was born from the understanding that leadership is never accidental. It must be cultivated. It must be challenged. It must be refined through pressure, sharpened by discipline, and passed from one generation to the next with care. The Society exists because men from communities underrepresented in higher education deserve more than acknowledgment. They deserve formation. They deserve brotherhood. They deserve a sacred space where their leadership is recognized, developed, disciplined, and elevated.

That path was earned, not handed out.

Founder Damyén Davis met six remarkable men—Juan Hurtado, Jordan Posada, Fernando Senchi, Tristan Anderson, Elisha Phillips, and Justin Anderson. Each carried a different spark of leadership. Each brought a different story, a different strength, a different witness to what was possible when men chose purpose over comfort and service over self. Together, they became the inaugural generation line of Phi Psi Lambda and the Society’s seven Founders.

Their bond became more than a beginning. It became a standard.

They set in motion a brotherhood rooted in courage, discipline, vision, and service. They established a compass for those who would come after them: lead with integrity, move with humility, serve with intention, and never forget that leadership is not a title placed upon a man, but a responsibility he chooses to carry.

Since that founding moment, Phi Psi Lambda has grown from an idea into a movement. What began in Paramus has become a living legacy—one that develops men who can read a room, navigate complex systems, build solutions, and create measurable change. Through signature programs such as PSIrenity, which centers mental health and healing; the National Day of Service, which mobilizes hands and hearts; and Lambda Week, which celebrates culture, achievement, and community impact, the Society continues to turn values into action.

At its core, Phi Psi Lambda is about character.

Its mentorship and scholarship are not designed merely to build résumés, but to build men. Men of integrity. Men of humility. Men of cultural wisdom. Men who understand that leadership is larger than recognition and deeper than ambition. Brothers serve, give, mentor, organize, and build because they know leadership is the daily decision to show up for their people.

Phi Psi Lambda is where men of color discover the strength of discipline and the power of brotherhood. It is a home for self-improvement, honest reflection, and shared accountability. It is a place where vision is tested, purpose is sharpened, and potential is called forward.

And the story is still being written.

It is written by Nobles who choose progress over passivity. It is written by men who turn purpose into impact. It is written by brothers who understand that legacy is not something inherited by accident, but something built, guarded, and passed on.

Phi Psi Lambda Leadership Society, Incorporated began with seven men, one vision, and a promise that leadership could become a living legacy.

That promise still lives.
